Hey Isaac, 

That's the right approach for anyone starting off. I personally like participating in following meetups (in that order)

1. REIG (Real Estate Investor's Group) - Meets in Arlington.

2. Roddy's Round Up - Meets in Farmers Branch

3. REIA (Real Estate Investor's Association) - near DFW Airport (Gaylord etc)

4. NTAREI (Roger Hodkin) - around Galleria in Dallas.
