A dog gone sad day

Well our Oregon trip went very well, until we returned. For the past few years every time we would travel (without Beauty) we would board her at the vets. She was 14 1/2 which is pretty old for a German Shepherd.

Anyway when we went to pick her up the vet said that she had been having a real difficult time since the previous day, harder than usual getting up and unable to eat. When they ran the tests she showed to be going into renal failure. The options were to put her on an IV to see if getting more liquids into her would help, let us take her home and see if being at home with us might help or to put her down.

My wife (truly her dog) decided that to do anything other than put her down would have been selfish as it would be more for her than for Beauty so that was what we did. We spent a few minutes with her alone and then the Dr. came in and gave her the shot. She never wimpered or jumped, just went quietly.

We had decided a few years ago that this would be our last dog, as great a companion as they are it's too hard to say good-bye to them.

Anyway now that we can post pix on BP I thought I'd share a picture of her. We had rescued her from a Special Pals place in Katy (Houston) TX when she was a year old. I think in the 13+ years she was with us she might have barked 4 times.
