The New Forum Trend of Fragility and Trolling
The forums here are always a mixed bag, but recent occurrences have unveiled a new low in trolling.
It's commenting on comments and then attempting to gaslight.
Multiple times now, someone has commented on either a post of mine or a comment of mine that was not directed at them. They either quoted or tagged me to start something, and then when I responded to them, they tried to gaslight me as if I was the one who sought them out. It's hugely trolly, weird, and borderline sociopathic.
Healthy disagreements are fine in forums, but when you initiate the conversation, you can't later hide from it and make it like someone else started it when the entire dialogue is right above.
A lot of this has to do with personal fragility and internet puffery.
At one point, I invited two trolls to hop on a recorded (for everyone's sake) Zoom to discuss what they were up in arms about. They both took that as a threat. Huh? People love to talk it up on an Internet board but will never hop on a live or recorded call that would be broadcast to the same people they are trying to impress. Shocker.

I mean trolling in a different sense. Still trolling, but it's on-topic, so not really spamming/trolling. It's like walking into a bar, picking a fight with someone, and then when you are about to get tossed out, saying why are you throwing me out, I didn't do anything. That type of thing. And on and on.

People in general are just walking around made of glass these days. You pretty much can't say anything to anyone without them getting bent, so it doesn't surprise me that there's more of them in the forums these days.

I agree. A feather breaks the glass facade now. What I find the strangest is that they keep coming back for more or pressing the issue. Some are engaging with me to get more posts on their record or more inbox back pats from other fragilities, but it's a very strange method of getting seen.
The more you show the reason in black and white, the less they recognize it.

I find this to be the case as well. It seems like some people are here to start arguments and not here to learn. I have been looking to learn more and more each and every day I am on here. I love the idea of BP. It is like a Facebook type app for real estate investors.

Yes, learners are looking at all points of view and not crying when they don't get the answer they want. Learners are great. At least half are not actually here to learn, they are here to get just any random person to validate their idea of success in the short-term.
@Jonathan Greene
I agree - I like to offer an alternative option which can be negative and I get plenty of private messages of me being mean, out for people etc.
As an example, I am Sorry, but my opinion is if you get 100% financing I think it is ultra high risk especially for someone new to real estate. That’s my opinion and I am not shy to say it - but wow the hate I get for things like that because it’s not what they paid thousands of dollars to learn I am just a hater….
You made a post to complain about this?
Looks like you had it coming to some degree. Not everyone's opinions are going to be liked, such is life. Keep it moving.

Huh? I think you are a little late to the party and dressed in a tuxedo t-shirt when it's black tie. There is a forum post with a million responses that they talked about on the main BP podcast and that's where this forum post came from. It was a follow up.
I didn't have anything coming. People are fragile. If you read the post and see the mayhem, you might get it.

Yea I am here to meet people who can help me retire early and do deals consistently. I am a newbie so it is a joke for me to have an ego. I have never understood people in business settings having massive egos haha.

It never fails that their name is truncated, they have no photo, and their profile is barren as well.

At least it's not like Twitter (err, X) where you get the waves of troll bots with handles like @u395353-532oih5j3-khjdgapg
