Getting Broker's License in Iowa

Hey guys, I'm looking at getting my broker's license. I don't really want to work for anyone as I'm busy with college, a part time job, and managing a couple of rentals and I'm doing this for my own REI company not looking to get a job. Everywhere I'm looking says I need to work under a licensed broker in order to get my salespersons and then my broker's license. Is this accurate? What is technically considered "working under"?

Thanks in advance!
