Wholesaling in Charlotte and Sarasota Counties

I'm in the Port Charlotte, Englewood, Venice area. I'm having trouble getting started wholesaling. Realtors here seem very suspicious. I even had one track down my family and called my son's work and talked to his boss. What is up with that? I assume the area has been through some fraud problems, but being new to the area I d know the history. Anyone know what I'm up against? It would help to know how to reassure and cooperate professionally.
