Fix-up property insurance

I like to buy distressed property for cash, fix them up [myself] and then put them into the rental pool. I am in Longview Washington.

I am having trouble getting property insurance. The insurance companies say they will insure when the fix up is complete but that leaves me with two or three weeks of ownership without insurance.

Any suggestions.
