New Member Introduction
Hi Everyone! I’m new here and just wanted to introduce myself and connect with the community. My husband and I recently made the commitment to start investing in real estate and have really been face first into all the books, podcasts, YouTube videos and articles lately.
We are located in the Hampton Roads, VA region, and are interested in starting our investments in the areas of Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. Anyone local?
Our goal is to start with rentals, and to find and seal a deal for a SFH or duplex within the next 6 months. I am definitely the one that tends to "need to know everything before I start," so already, I can tell that this will be a rewarding challenge for personal growth, development of financial intelligence..and maybe test our marriage at times :) Any power couples out there?
We are under 30 and ready to make it happen and so grateful to have found this platform! I look forward to connecting, and hope to add value to this generous community as we go.
@Emily Achey good luck! Hampton Roads is a good market with lots of potential!
@Emily Achey Welcome! There are a lot of opportunities in the area, but make sure you do your research. The market is very hot in the Hampton Roads are, but there are plenty of opportunities if you are patient. Look forward to watching you guys grow.
Hello, the market in Hampton Roads is definitely on the high end right now. I have found some great deals in the past few months, but you have to remember that many other investors are going to jump on that deal also if it's on the MLS or advertised in any way. I recently found one of the investors I work with an off market deal that helped avoid the bid wars that seem inevitable with any good opportunities that are seen on the MLS. Right now patience is the key and the and the name of the game. Always make sure the numbers make sense.
Good luck
Hi @Emily Achey,
Congrats on getting started on this journey! I myself am also a "need to know everything" type person, and spent a solid 2 years researching, reading, and getting ready for my first purchase. Looking back while that was definitely way too long, it did help guide and shape the type of REI I wanted to focus on.
My wife and I are also on the journey together, so you have a huge leg up having someone else to work with and bounce ideas off of. My wife and I both have our own strengths in this business and relying on each other has definitely helped us to close on some great deals.
We primarily focus on multifamily and own some properties in the Hampton roads area. We did spend a large amount of time searching for duplex’s and quads in the area, so feel free to reach out if you want to chat more about our experience with that. Wish you all the best in your search.
Congrats on making the commitment!
THiNK and TRIG are/or 2 local groups I would recommend.
HR is diverse in its Real Estate options, but like everywhere rihgt not, pretty hot due to the 'easing' and therefore low interst rates. I would recommend joining one of the local meetups (zoom currently) and find someone who is doing your strategy. Most people are more than willing to grab coffee and share.
@Taylor Bishop thanks a lot! I appreciate your insight. We just closed on our primary residence in August and it was pretty insane how fast we had to act. We are imagining a similar feel here with investing, but good to hear the opportunity is here!
@Sean Rooks awesome, thanks for the recommendations. We will definitely get connected with those groups!
@Benjamin Whitney thanks for your insight! Great to connect with a successful couple in the business. Will be in touch!
Hello! 🙋♀️ from va bch! Buy and hold numbers are pretty tight in the area right now. A little creative insight can still get you where you need to be per door. Enjoy the journey. Krissie.
Buy and hold investor here. I find the deals and my better half manages them after we close including reno. We just closed on our 18th door this week. Happy to chat and network. We are 31 and struggle connecting with most friends our age. 😬
HI @Emily Achey! Welcome to Hampton Roads investing. Have you defined your buy criteria yet? Tell us what you are looking for and what you are willing to pay so we can tell you if we find it!

Welcome to the area! It seems like the young investor community in Hampton Roads is really thriving lately. There is relatively low inventory right now but don't let that discourage you as you continue to look through deals, as there are plenty of people closing on investment properties despite that!
Hey @Emily Achey ! Welcome to BP! My husband and I are also starting investors in the area. We currently have one SF rental and were looking to purchase a second, but have decided to pursue the multifamily option. Now looking for quad. Still learning but jumping in feet first! Great community with so many people willing to help. Also try zoom meetups. It really helps to just meet and talk with people! Good Luck!
Welcome to the BP family! My husband (@Renard Miller and I are Hampton Roads investors and serial entrepreneurs. If you're ever interested in RE deals on the "other side of the water" (Williamsburg, Hampton, Yorktown, Newport News, Gloucester), we'd be happy to chat.
Hello @Emily Achey. Welcome to the BP community. I live in Newport News and I'm in the process of closing on a duplex in Chesapeake. There are some great opportunities all over the Hampton Roads area. Feel free to reach out if you need advise. Best of luck.
Hello @Emily Achey! Welcome to the community! Hampton Roads is a fantastic market to invest in. I'm a Realtor/investor with 2 SFRs and currently working on a BRRR. You are going to find most multifamily deals are in Norfolk, Portsmouth and VA Beach. Let me know if I can help!
