Aloha from Hawaii
Aloha,
My name is Laura, I'm originally from Colorado but I've moved around a lot since marrying a military guy. Currently I'm living in Oahu and very much wanting to stay here in paradise!
I happened upon the Bigger Pockets' YouTube profile which led me to this website, and I haven't stopped reading the articles for days!
I always thought real estate investing was another get rich quick scheme so I never listened to any of the advice I was given about it. Now that I've gotten hold of some great books and websites, I realize I was just too scared to believe what I could be capable of!
The most interesting part of real estate, in my opinion, are rental properties--especially multifamily homes. I'm struggling with figuring out how to start the process of investing in this very high priced, highly competitive market in Oahu. Any advice about this is greatly appreciated.
I have attended one HiREI meeting so far and plan to become a member. Please say hello as I would love to make more connections.
Mahalo!

A late welcome to BP Laura Gonzalez but a welcome none the less!
Buy & Hold investing is my interest as well. Who doesn't like cash flow? :) Like Ali Boone and Marco Santarelli were saying, some areas just don't make sense for that strategy. I live in Los Angeles also and invest out of state because of this very reason.
In my local market, many investors are speculators banking on appreciation. There are also house flippers that do well. About 2 hours outside of Los Angeles there might be some possible cash flow deals but they are hard to find. Not sure if you have that type of radius differential going on in Hawaii though!
