Hello from Madison, WI
Hello BP Members,
My name is Bob Proudfit and I have been a BP member for a little while now but thought it time to introduce myself. I actually live in the Village of Waunakee, which is really a 'burb of Madison, Wisconsin. Like many other aspiring investors I read Rich Dad Poor Dad many years ago and wanted for the longest time to invest in real estate. The last two years I went from thinking about it to doing it. I started with a group in our neighborhood leveraging our newly created self directed 401ks to invest in SF and a 4-unit here in Madison, WI. Within the last year I've shifted my focus to the Milwaukee market and since March of 2012 I have built up a small portfolio of about half dozen SF homes. I own or have equity positions in a number of properties both inside my 401k and in in my various LLCs. My business partner and I are now shifting our sites to doing our first rehab in the Milwaukee market.
In my "former" life I was an environmental engineer and have a MS in Environmental Science. I've worked in a lot of industries over my career, but it was during my 2 years as a project manager for a land developer in Central Wisconsin that I really started getting the itch to do my own thing. When the market tanked in 2007 I had to transition into IT in corporate as a Project Manager (was PMP certified until I let it go). After a few years of that it just wasn't working for me and my life so I transitioned out on my own a couple years ago and have not looked back since. I am going at this FT and am grateful to have such an incredibly informative site like Bigger Pockets to rely on. I look forward to become more involved on this site and would even like to contribute a guest post within the next couple of months!
