Aspriring Investor, Young Mom, in need of guidance!
Hi to all who kindly view my post!
First I'd like to say how incredible of a site this is, it is a dream and nothing has made more sense to me in my life.
Shout out to Brandon for all the awesome series, and all the podcasts, I am thrilled to be apart of this community.
Okay so my story is I recently attended a Than Merrill 2 hr RE class and I truthfully signed up to continue on to a 3 day workshop, when looking into the credibility, a Bigger Pockets forum came up in the search and I have been hooked on this site ever since & got a refund for the workshop! So here I am. I've read the Ultimate Guide, watched the 4 part series, & listened to several podcasts & a webinar. Loved them all.
Background:
I'm just going to put my story out there for the best feedback I can get. So here it is.
I am 25 years old from Orange County, NY , and I currently am married with 2 young boys! (3&2 yrs) ( Also recently a full time stay at home mom) But my husband and I are currently living with MY IN LAWS. We decided when we got pregnant to stay with his parents and save. This past January we were pre-approved for a mortgage, come to realize we could not comfortably afford a mortgage & all the home expenses just on my husbands income. I have been looking at homes for over 2 years now , (I do on a regular basis) and am clearly the one that is beyond ecstatic about real estate itself & investing. He is a little skeptical , but very much on board.
Anyways, up until I went to the Than Merrill class and then watched/ read what Brandon had to offer, I have been busy getting accepted into college to become an Occupational Therapy Assistant this coming fall!
My husband and I only have less than 10k in savings, and right now are just staying a float with his checking account.
I would like to prepare myself, educate myself as much as possible. And I know everyone has all different stories but I am a very cautious person when it comes to anything & everything
1) I believe I should continue on and complete my degree to achieve a better financial position to save as much as possible together. To achieve a "median income" to work off of.
2) Beyond that , we will go on to own our "first home" starter home, in hopes to eventually use it as a rental property and purchase another home after that.
I'm very aware there are tips and tricks to saving and frugality, as well as using OPM or low costs. I just feel very afraid not knowing all the specifics as a newbie that I do not feel confident to make any moves other than anything I stated above.
To anyone who has advice or words of encouragement please do so. I've never been more serious about anything in my life, and I know I was meant for REI. I'm so fortunate to have found Bigger Pockets, and I'm so happy to be here.
Thank you to anyone who reads, and helps me along my journey to financial independence!
