Beginner just starting out in North Jersey

Hello!

I am a 30 year old soon to be married.  Both my fiance and I have good income jobs, looking for advice on how to start out in a tough market like north jersey.  Our goal is to achieve financial independence one day and would like to start with house hacking in a multifamily home and hopefully grow from that experience.  Any recommendations on where to start? Starting to save up now and targeting to buy in 2 years.

@Yatin Dalvi thanks for the advice, yea me and fiancé don’t have kids just yet so hoping to get started before we start a family, i can see that it must be tougher to start like that once the kids are older; nj definitely seems tough though with the taxes; good luck to you as well!
