Newbie and looking for advice on who to team up w 1st?

Been trying to learn a lot over the past month via BP and a local meetup.  Would like to start looking at some properties in Howard, PG and Anne Arundel county MD but not sure who to take w me - real estate agent, general contractor, perhaps even a home inspector?  

Would a general contractor or home inspector charge you to view properties?

What kind of ROI do you think I can make in those markets?
