New REO Agent intro - Rochester, NY

Hello BP community!

My name is Ryan O’Rourke. I’m 29, I’ve lived in Rochester, NY my entire life, and I recently became a licensed Real Estate Salesperson.

A little background on my RE journey up until this point..

Growing up my Father was always a RE broker. Over the past 10 years or so, he specialized doing REO's in the Binghamton, NY area.

At the end of April this year, my Father had a severe stroke. It was immediately obvious that he wouldn't be able to work again. I was half way through my RE licensing class at this point, and I knew I had to finish as quickly as possible if I was ever going to be able to support my Dad and myself financially. I quit my job in Rochester and moved into his house near Binghamton to keep his brokerage afloat with his partner and tend to his medical needs while finishing my licensing class.

2 months later my Dad passed away. I decided if I was going to make it in RE on my own, my best shot would be in Rochester where I know the area and my friends and family live. I finished my licensing course, passed my NYS RE license test, and moved back home.

Fast forward to today, I'm a licensed Realtor for Howard Hanna in Pittsford, I have the coolest possible mentor I could have ever asked for, and I'm working on a team with an REO agent that has been in the business for 20+ years.

I've been reading the BP forums for a while, so I know there's a few of you guys on here from Rochester. My ultimate goal would be to own investment property of my own someday, and I feel like the position I'm in is a really good way to learn to business. Anyways, I'd love to hear from you guys what you look for when working with an agent or REO agent looking for investment property.

Thanks for reading!

@Ryan O'Rourke I'm sorry for your loss. Kudos to you for doing all you could for your dad. You sound like a good son. I'm a flip and buy and hold investor. I don't generally buy off the MLS but if you come across any good deals keep me in mind. I'll send you a PM.
