Introduction to BP: Austin from Los Angeles, CA
Hey BP, my name is Austin Petrie. I've been doing my research on REI for many months now and finally feel I have reached the point where I can ask thoughtful questions and maybe answer basic questions on BP. So I'd like to introduce myself to all of you and hopefully begin contributing to this awesome community!
A little bit about me: I was born and raised in LA, I'm 23 years old, and I work as a software developer. My biggest drive in life is to make the world a better place. You're probably thinking this is a very vague goal, and you're right. While looking into how I can actually accomplish this, I realized that I need to be able to have the time to truly commit to it and therefore I need to achieve financial freedom so that I don't have to work a full time job. This is where REI comes in.
I plan on doing buy and hold rental property investing. I'm currently still researching which city I want to start investing in; I've narrowed it down to about 10 locations. I live in Los Angeles, but I'm most likely going to invest out of state. Before I finalize that decision, I want to talk with other investors in LA to make sure this is the right choice for me. I'll likely start with SFRs to get some experience in the REI world and then move to MFRs.
Please feel free to reach out to me in the comments or through private messages, I'd love to chat with any and all of you and see how we can help each other reach all our goals!

Sounds good. There are places in California that are like out of state if you wanted something a bit closer to your front door. Obviously the 49 other states will take your money all day as well. Las Vegas you could include as a distant LA suburb almost depending on traffic right or quick 45 min flight. Places like Palm Springs or Bakersfield might be some of the more drivable local outliers. Lastly, since your young you always have the fha house or 2-4 plex hack option in an up and coming area that allows you to tie up several hundred thousand in inventory for very little (3.5%) Think about locations like Inglewood, downtown LA ish, Long Beach etc... Still looking for the person who went wrong in LA doing that as I have not found a single one.
Good luck with your search!
