New Member Tips to Success-A Significant Advantage

Hey guys,

I wanted to start this post to give you a few tips to getting connected here on BP. I have so many people reach out to connect. As a full-time investor I often get requests to connect here on BP. I'm happy to connect with everyone, BUT not everyone is that way. Here are a few tips and an explanation as to WHY these simple steps are important to follow. I hope some of my other BPer's add onto this thread with their best practices. Good luck out there, remember...your NETWORK IS YOUR NET WORTH.

1) PLEASE!!!!! Get a photo up ASAP

The Why: Not having a photo up is like going to a networking event with a paper bag on your head. I don't want to respond to someone who isn't interested in taking the simplest effort into themselves. This is 2017 and we know you have some great pics of that mug of yours! We want to see you as a person, otherwise its just like getting a text message from a number you don't recognize.

2) FILL your profile!!!!!

I don't care if you are an 18 y.o. homeless kid who has never even lived in a house. We all have skills, dreams, goals, and personality types that bring distinct advantages to your ability to be a success. Were you your HS prom King? Do you love fantasy football and have a distinct method to hedge your risks when choosing specific players at your draft? Do you want 25 units before you are 25y.o.? Make yourself a human, connect with others passively through sharing your genuine selves. The only way to get your profile wrong is by not taking the time to post anything worth reading.

3) ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be looking to add value to EVERY person you contact on here

IT'S simple!!!! Tell other members why you wanted to connect with them. Let them know that what they wrote on a post resounded with your perspective. Perhaps compliment them on the successes they've had on their profile and that you would like to emulate them. Ask to buy them a cup of coffee, a beer, lunch, dinner or ice cream...doesn't matter. As a new person, just getting face time from a successful person in your area may be worth your weight in gold (I mean, think about it...they may help springboard your career...).

4) INVEST IN YOURSELF

Take the time to research your questions you ask before asking them. Many many topics have already been tackled on here. If you want the best advice, learn the most you can on the subject and then ask VERY specific questions about your project or area. Asking questions like..."How should I get started in RE Investing?" is like saying "I'm hungry, what should I eat?"

My answer to that question would be as broad as the ask. No one wants to hear the reply I would give, "Food."

Invest time in your profile, its an investment in yourself. If you don't think your time is worth investing in yourself...why would anyone else. Get out there and get connected!
