Considering real estate agent license to get started.

I'm currently living with family due to a shoulder surgery thats left me currently unable to work.  I'm trying to use my time wisely and considering one of these online programs to get my real estate agent license.  Any other entry level positions that might be beneficial before getting the license?  Or even a lease agent at a apartment or rental management company?  I'm wanting to get into the industry and gain experience.  I plan to buy my own properties to rent when I can.  Right now my local market seems kind of like a bad area though.  The prices of properties are all high and the rents are all low, 300-600 tops.  I'm still waiting to find the right deals.

So has anyone else got there real estate agent license?  Did you do it online?  Would you recommend it?  Has it benefitted you any?  I would like to jump into it full time after I complete this physical therapy, or it might even be possible to do while I'm finishing physical therapy if theres not a great deal of heavy lifting.

I currently live in western Kentucky in the Madisonville area.  Spent the last 8 years in Lexington and just came back due to medical issues.
