investing from outside USA

Hi everyone, my name is Bryan. I am from the UK but for the past 2 years I have been living in New Zealand. After a lot of thinking about what I would like to do to take my career in a different direction, I have decided that I would like to invest in real estate. Initially I would like to start out by flipping houses as I have a construction background. Long-term I would like to grow a business and acquire a multi unit apartment and have a passive income. I would like to know if it is possible for me to invest in the US from overseas. Obviously flipping houses won't be possible, but purchasing a multi-family unit and renting it out. Is this possible? Any help would be appreciated.
