Investing in Richmond, VA

Hi,

My name is Todd Swortzel and I live in Lake Forest, IL where I work in the senior living sector.I am beginning to build a small portfolio of rental properties in Richmond, VA where I plan to retire.I joined the forum to get up to date information on residential rental property investing; it been many years since I have an active investor. I hope to retire in 10 – 12 years with a 20 house portfolio, we have purchase five SFH over the last several years and fortunately my son lives in Richmond and is managing the properties.

I have many years’ experience in different aspects of real estate and started my professional career as a plumbing and heating contractor right out of college. Later sold the business and became licensed as a realtor and focused on land development.I eventual moved on and for the last 25 years have developed over a billion dollars’ worth of senior living communities (CCRC’s). When I was in the contracting business we flipped quite a few houses primarily to make sure I had work for my employees, hoping to do a little of that when I retire if the market will cooperate. Always has been fun to be in the industry in one way or another.
