Just Getting Started

My name is Josh. I'm from the Charleston area of SC and I currently work at the VA as a registered nurse. By "just getting started," I mean that I am literally just educating myself right now. At the recommendation of a friend about a year back, I briefly checked out the site. Actually forgot about it for sometime, but recent conversations, occasional HGTV shows on Netflix with the family, relationships with real estate folks in my church, as well as new connections with folks in my area has really gotten my interest peaked to the point of planning and action. For at least the next 4-5 years, I'm wanting to be able to do this on the side efficiently and effectively. I've listened to about 30-40 podcasts so far (in the order that they appear in "The Ultimate Beginners Guide to Real Estate Investing " - which I read twice) and am now basically dictating detailed notes into Microsoft OneNote as I hear helpful quotes or suggestions on the podcasts. I'm also hoping to take some online classes on real estate investing and real estate law through the local community college to help with the learning curve, while I simultaneously piece together my team and business plan. While it's all still in the works as far as business plan and model, my ultimate goal for REI is 3-fold: 1) I want to financially provide for the present and future of my family (the obvious). 2) I want to have wealth to give wealth. I want to be smart about what I give to and when, but I want have the freedom because of real estate investing to be able to give generously to people and causes that will matter long after I'm gone. 3) I'd love to be able to transition eventually from a 9-5 job so that I can spend more time investing in my family, being a mentor to folks that have been placed in my life, writing, serving my community in/with my church. Would love to connect with any of the other investors and real estate-affiliated folks, specifically in the greater Charleston area. Thanks BP and membership for the helpful community and great resource that you have/are building!
