Hi! New investor from Atlanta

Background

I am a real estate attorney working for a reputable firm in Atlanta. I only recently began practicing in this area, but in time I will develop expertise in regards to the legal side of real estate industry. My wife just recently left her job out of state to join me here. She has a business management background but is an entrepreneur at heart, and her dream is to build a business and work for herself.

At this point, neither of us has meaningful experience or knowledge about real estate investing. We’ve both thought about real estate investing in the past, and this seems like the ideal time to take the plunge—we can easily live on my income, and as my wife is currently unemployed anyway, she can devote herself full time to giving this business a shot, with support from me. Meanwhile, I’ll be gaining experience in the industry and making connections through my job.

Financially, I gross six figures, but also have six figures in student loan debt (no other debt). We are currently renting an apartment. We don’t currently have access to great sources of private capital (the rich aunt that can loan us $100k for our first deal is not in the picture), but we do have good credit.

Moving Forward

Currently, we need to educate ourselves regarding the industry and different approaches to investment. After we read through the educational materials on this site and a few books in order to gain a basic level of knowledge, we will begin networking within the industry and will develop a business plan and begin building a team to work on our first project. At this time, we don’t know enough about the industry or our market to have chosen an approach to focus on (flip, buy and hold, etc). We don’t need to focus on only passive investments, as my wife will be available to manage the business full time.

Thanks for reading--looking forward to being part of the community!

@Andrew Bauer- Welcome to the BP community.

This is not rocket science, so, with with you and wife's credentials, it will not be long before you both are well on your way with REI.

Ok, now that you have taken your initial step, below are some quick links to get engaged.

REI can be very daunting, but, before you go searching for that 1st buy, please take a few minutes to bone up on the tips in link below.

However, this site thrives on interactions and as such we encourage two way exchanges and look forward to educational and thought provoking ideas relevant to REI.
