Greetings from Kansas City, MO
Hey all! Sooo glad I found this group. I've been listening to the great podcasts and lurking around the forums for about a week now and decided it's about time I introduce myself. My name is Pearline Hardy and I am pretty much new to this industry. I've always loved houses and the real estate market but I never thought about it as a career until I started watching HGTV to get some ideas for decorating my new house about 10 years ago and got obsessed with house hunting shows which led to renovation and flipping shows. The more I watched I realized that these people had to start somewhere and most of them were once average people like me. It was then I decided if they can do it so can I. But then the issue became "with whose money???" Two years ago we ended up buying a new (old) house and rented out our old place. So we became landlords and semi-rehab wannabes since the new house needed work. The dream was postponed due to 2 looong pregnancies but that didnt stop me from working on my own house. So here I am more ready than ever. I have basically joined this group for the networking opportunites and the massive source of information (this is after spending $2K on some ridiculous 3 day investment seminar that I was convinced I needed only to end up teaching me an hours worth of information that I didnt already know boo!). Also is anyone associated with the local REIA?

Welcome to BiggerPockets, @Pearline Hardy!
I am not in your neck of the woods, but there is a meetup and networking forum here, so I would check that out.
I'm sorry you spent that $2,000 on the guru course, but look on the bright side, you figured it out before you dropped $20,000 on the next level training. Which only exists to sell you on the $100,000 level training.
Those flipping shows are pretty unrealistic. They show you the shiny scenes without showing you all the problems that can arise. That said, you can make a lot of money flipping, so it isn't all bad.
