Hey everyone!

I'm Chris and I'm a complete newcomer to real estate investing and found this website by, you guessed it, Googling for beginners REI resources which lead me to the UBG.

I'm in the process right now of relocating to DFW from just a couple hours south of the metro. Although I co-own and manage a Texas based website / web software design business and have been an entrepreneur for 20 years, I have a long-standing goal of growing an REI business.

I'm in the process of determining what type of REI to get into, but hold and rent SFHs or MFHs really appeal to me - multi-family more than SFH. I'm ruling nothing out as I learn though...

At the moment that's my focus - I am learning, learning, learning. I'm reading the forums, listening to the podcasts every moment I get, reading REI & related books (just wrapped up Rich Dad / Poor Dad and am deep into Getting Things Done). I'm also preparing to build out my team (lawyer, CPA, contractors etc), and preparing to setup our structures and processes.

My next steps are to find a real estate investment club/group in the Dallas / Fort Worth area so I can get some experience on the ground as I'm not yet familiar enough with the area.  I expect I'll be spending a ton of time driving around too just to get a feel for the area.

So that's me!  My first question to everyone - can you recommend a real estate investing group / meetup in the DFW area?

Great to 'meet' you all! :)

@Chris Hill

Welcome!  Since you area already doing the things I would recommend, I'll just say...Good Job...and skip the encouragement to do those things!  :)

I'm partial to the DFW RE Club, which meets every Saturday from 9:30 - Noon at the Woodhaven Country Club (just off East Loop 820 and I-30). It's not terribly "pitchy" and they actually provide good content. I will say, it's run by IT geeks, which you will understand means it can be a little bland in presentation. But, everyone there is an active investor or works supporting active investors. You can get a lot of good contacts. On the Dallas side of things, the primary Dallas REIA meets the 2nd Thursday of every month at the Marriott Quorum (Quorum Drive & Dallas North Tollway by the Galleria) from 6 -9pm. There is also a North Texas group that meets at the Richardson Civic Center (Arapaho & 75) the 3rd Thursday of each month from 6:30-9.

I've lived here most of my life, so if you have any questions about the area or specific sub-markets/micro-markets, feel free to PM me.
