Hello from San Francisco and a native!
Greetings! I found bigpockets from youtube of all places. I owned 1 property previously in San Francisco, which I lived in and rented out an illegal inlaw. Actually, I used to live in the inlaw and rented out the main living area of the house. I later moved to the main living space and rented the inlaw out. I sold the property and broke even (I bought it at the height of the RE boom in 2005). I later moved into a single family home that my parents were renting to a family, but the family ran into some financial issues before the lease was up, and instead of trying to squeeze them for rent, I offered to move in with a roommate and pay for the mortgage- my name is on title too.
I want to get into RE investing in the bay area- maybe even SF (even with the tenant friendly laws). The market here is crazy expensive though and I don't see it slowing for a long time. I will keep reading everything here to help my journey!

Glad you found BP, and I definitely recommend coming out to meet some others. There are SF investors on here and at the meetups. I invest in and live in Oakland, which has rent control. It presents extra complications, but there is a reason rent control is in place. Because rents shoot through the roof! I have some stories with that if you're interested.. Thanks for the shoutout @Account Closed 's meetup.
