I will start by saying how impressed I am with the Bigger Pockets community. Although I only joined the site a short time ago, it is refreshing to see so many smart people willing to share ideas, experiences and information with others. This community renews some of my faith in the power of the internet and social media! Thanks in advance to all who willingly do so!

About me - I have worked for myself doing IT Consulting for the past 9 years while being heavily involved with my family and kids activities. All has been fun and rewarding on different levels but as the years have progressed, the equation of trading long hours for additional income has forced me to re-evaluate my investing strategies, principles and goals.

I arrived at Bigger Pockets after kick-starting a personal goal to look at passive income investments streams a few months ago. I've read many Real Estate books, consumed many podcasts (Episode 1-50 from Bigger Pockets!) and spent many hours reading on the site. I've learned a ton so far from Bigger Pockets and look forward to continuing to learn, give back and pay it forward as I can.

I am primarily interested in Buy and Hold investing starting with Single Family and eventually working to Multi-Family properties. I would like to buy 1 or 2 properties this year.

I haven't had the opportunity to get involved in the local Real Estate Investing community here in Sugar Land/Houston but plan on doing so soon. Any suggestions, recommendations on this topic or any other feedback on going from start to that 1st investment purchase are much appreciated.
