Hi,

My name is Bobby Hornsby. I'm 24, and I'm currently enlisted in the Navy. I live in Goose Creek, SC where I'm still in training. It keeps me busy, but I'm willing to sacrifice free time to learn something so valuable. Almost a year ago I started reading about investing, and it's held my interest ever since. I'm more ambitious than ever before.  At first, I thought I needed to "know more" before I could come on here and talk to people, but I'm going to give it a shot anyway.

From the few books I've read, I think I would like to start out with duplexes, triplexes, or a 4-plex so I could keep the loan private. I imagine working my way up to apartment buildings. I won't always be able to live around properties that I may buy due to being in the Navy though. I don't want that to stop me, but it is a worry I have.

Looking forward to talking to some of you. This is exciting!

Bobby Hornsby

Welcome to Biggerpockets!

You found the place to be! You will find no better place to build a solid platform than bigger pockets. The one thing we all agree up on is that we invest in real estate. Beyond that everyone has a different niche!

You also run into other transient military investors like ourselves :0! My husband is active duty navy. We have turned being the fact that we are only "local" as long as the orders have is stationed in a location. As a great investment plan! While investing in multiplexes (2+) is amazing, we have found that it doesn't always make sense.

To date we have found that class A single family  properties self-managing from a distance while working full time works best for us. This allows us to both invest for the future while  working on furthering our careers for now. We live very frugally allowing us to live off of one income and save the other. We have further our career and used the W2 income to leverage our real estate portfolio.

We own 2 houses in the summerville area. We got started buying a personal property with a VA loan and than renting it out when we were transferred. We have alot of friends that even rented their rooms to other military members. This was a great way to get their rent paid for you. As an investor it allows you to save up money quicker to buy pure rentals that have higher downpayment amounts of 20%.

I highly recommend you also check out- the blogs, forums and listen to the podcasts. If you see a post you enjoy check out the persons signature. As many of us have created resources around our niche (websites, blogs, etc) so checking out the signature is a great to get more information. Make sure you don't miss out on networking is by filling out your signature, profile and pming people with questions.

We got started at 23, and through baby steps hard work and not giving up, 3 years later we are on our way to seeing significant progress in our goals.

So please feel free to message me if I can be of help!!!

Good Luck and I'll see you around!
