New dude from our nation's capital

Hi - I am a government lawyer in Washington D.C. where I work on national security and civil liberties issues. Found out about BiggerPockets through the podcast, which I have been devouring daily.

I travel a lot for work which allows me the possibility of comparing real estate markets across the country. I have a couple of single-family homes in the outskirts of Houston, TX. They have minimal expenses and net me $650 cash flow, after all expenses (including repair reserve). A trusted prop. manager helps out. My strategy is to buy and hold, for now.

I know most folks believe in purchasing property locally, but I am trying the alternative - earning money from my full time job at the DC rate and spending it in markets where property is far cheaper, and expenses lower. I've joined the community because I'd like to expand my criteria and begin purchasing small multi-family homes.

I look forward to learning from you all and growing, and hopefully sharing what I myself learn!
