New to BP, saying hello from Los Angeles

My name is Corey, I have two strong backgrounds, one in construction and remodeling, and one in bar management. I'm new-ish to the LA area, from Seattle originally, where I have participated in the purchase and build-out phases of a few successful establishments there, and hope to continue that streak of success, but as an owner/partner from now on. I also really enjoyed the purchase and remodel process of my own home in Seattle, and look forward to doing it again here in Los Angeles.

I'm currently studying for my agent's license and came across BP when my curiosity about wholesaling, REITs, and MFR ownership got the best of me.

In all the years that I've watched reality shows about flipping houses and selling multi-million dollar listings, I've always enjoyed the thrill of the wins and losses, but having met so many people that believe it's that "easy", I wasn't sure if I was on the right planet. I've had to work really hard to make an honest deal profitable for all involved in my own experiences, and I don't like cut corners. I'm really impressed with the realistic views and solid experience I've seen on these forums and look forward to many valuable insights and opinions.

@ Ned Carey "People think it is "easy" until they try it and fail, then they think it is a "Scam"

Couldn't agree more. I'm fortunate to come from a background where I was guided by very successful people who absolutely insisted in me learning the hard way. One of my biggest mentors is Alex Calderwood, a very influential businessman to a growing niche in the market and a prominent face in the commercial real estate scene. Mr. Calderwood managed to make quite an empire for himself in a relatively short amount of time based on the principle of doing a job better than was expected and using sound judgement and good taste in every detail. He was my employer for many years and passed away just a few weeks ago. His passing was my reminder that we are all working on a limited timeframe, and subsequently , triggered my discovery of Bigger Pockets.

I literally watched firsthand as my previous employers created wealth from thin air, and against odds most would tremble over. When I think of the word "scam", the get rich quick mentality comes to mind, and it's always those that fail people in this industry, leading to the common complaint of said failures being the results of a "scam".

I believe I truly know what "the edge" to have in this industry is, and it innovation, action, and honesty.
