Detached ADU: Required minimum distance from primary dwelling

Hari Narayanan
Posted

Hello fellow purell users!

I am looking to build a detached ADU in the backyard of my MF property in East Bay.

I am trying to find out if there is a minimum distance that I have to maintain between the primary dwelling and the proposed detached ADU.

I have read the state ADU law and didn't find anything there. Does this fall under the fire code? I have tried searching and haven't had much luck.

I would appreciate if anyone who knows about this part of the regulation can share their thoughts. If you can include a relevant link, even better!

Many thanks!

@Hari Narayanan, It's not so much the state law (although there are requirements that exist), but you should seek out your local planning department. Search the city and planning department in google and call that phone number and speak to someone on the phone.
