Allowed ADU Size in San Jose for 6,000 sq ft lot
Hi,
I wanted to see if anyone knows what is the size of ADU allowed in San Jose. From what I have read below is whats allowed based on your lot size
Lot Size Max Allowed Size
3,000 - 5444 600
5,445 - 9000 700
9,001 - 10,000 800
10,001 - Up 900
I actually had a contractor come over last week to evaluate the addition of ADU and he mentioned something different.
"Also to be clear as of 2017 Senate Bill 1069 allows the construction of an ADU unit up to 1200 ft.² as long as it's within 5 feet of the property line and within 1.5 miles of a bus stop. This means you do meet the requirements so the permit process should be fairly easy as soon as we get architectural and engineered plans ready."
My lot size is 6,000 so I am confused if I am allowed to build 700 sq ft ADU or 1200 sq ft ADU. My house is within 1.5 mile of a bus stop.
Thanks
