What should Carpets cost?

Hi Everyone,

Just got a quote on carpets for four bedrooms at 900sqft and they said they could do it for $2K.  (In Gulf coast not too far from Tampa).  The sells rep from Empire was EXTREMELY pushy. One of the pushiest sells people I've ever experienced. Didn't expect that from the Rug guy hah.

I told him I wanted to sleep on it.

Is $2K for 900sqft worth it?  Should I keep the current and just get them professionally steam cleaned?

Just buy a Bissel carpet shampooer from WalMart for about $150.  Skip their cleaning solutions and use a degreaser or Fabuloso general purpose cleaner.  I do this with my 23 STRs.

Tip:  Clean it with hot water so that the carpet fibers are damp.  Then mix some of the cleaner with water in a pump type sprayer and spray down the damp carpet and let it set for about 15 minutes.  Then run the carpet shampooer as normal.

I pay $7 to $10 a square yard for carpet out the door.  The quote you have is $20, which seems high even if it includes installation.
