Vehicle Tax Write-off for Mountain Cabin STR Maintenance
Apologies if this was covered somewhere already. I am seeing a lot of conflicting information online and didn't see a post covering this topic on this forum.
I recently purchased a mountain cabin in a location in the western US which gets quite a bit of snow as a short term rental.
My primary vehicle is a 4 door sedan. Nothing special. But also not something i would feel comfortable taking on snowy roads in the mountains.
I am following the rules for tax write offs. 14 days rule, write offs capped at income (will have carryover losses), etc....
So in light of this I bought a 4wd truck and put snow rated tires on it. The primary purpose of the truck will be to travel to the cabin every 4 to 6 weeks for routine maintenance and general checks on the property.
I am going to check with a tax professional, but that said, I would be curious to hear anyones experience here.
Are the truck and improvements such as tires something that I can partially or fully write off my taxes?
Thanks for your responses.
