What is Your Process for Determining STR Legality?

For those of you doing STR's via VRBO, Air Bnb etc, when you're evaluating potential new properties how are you quickly determining whether the property is STR eligible? Do you have to check the zoning with the county and a case-by-case basis? Any websites that help with this process?

I buy mine in Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg and I pay my taxes. 13 million tourists and 7000 residents. Do the math. They can’t survive without us. We put up huge numbers. Everyone is happy.

STR is not a good idea in places where people live.
