Vrbo Policy Updates: Partner Cancellation

My Vrbo account manager sent me this today:

There are substantial cancellation fees if you initiate a cancellation.

May of this year they also listed a temporary 7-day suspension of your listing.

They really really don't want you cancelling a booking.

If something comes up try to get the guest cancel the reservation. You should also involve Vrbo if something comes up that is beyond your control.

I personally have never had to cancel a booking, so I don't see this as a big deal.

This must be an issue for them to come up with these rules.

Preparation H has a warning that says no to take orally, probably because someone did do this, so they had to create the warning.

VRBO cancel policies are a crock of ****. I lost my premier host standing because I had to initiate a cancellation and despite having all of the communication in writing VRBO wouldn't credit it. Someone booked and then the evening before their arrival the next day messaged me and said they would be arriving at 6 AM and needed to check in then. Our policies clearly state 4 PM check in, and I couldn't accommodate an early check in anyway because the previous guests were still there and had until 10 AM to check out, then the house needed cleaning. They wouldn't cancel and I couldn't give them the check in information and have them beating on the door at 6 AM, so I cancelled after conferring with VRBO and they still took my premier host for cancelling ( I'll get it back in about a week).

That's definitely unfortunate especially after you went through Vrbo.
