Potential STR Areas in in Tx
Hi All,
Still relatively new to the Dallas area and was curious on thoughts on the Garland, Tx market for STR? Also was wondering if anyone knows a solid design team that is priced fairly, and how I can find a solid handyman in the area.
Thanks!

Quote from @Brian Cannon:It would probably be worth a phone call to the Garland Planning and Zoning department to ascertain which areas are permitted to have short term rentals.

Hey @Brian Cannon after you check and see where STRs are allowed, surf AirBNB and VRBO in the immediate area and see what others are there.
How much are they getting for a nightly rate? What is their occupancy? What amenities do they offer?
That will give you a good idea of how well you could do in that area.
Garland code compliance oversees the rental registration program. This also covers STR.
Many investors tend to stay away from Garland and Mesquite because they have very strict renovation and rental inspection laws. I often feel the cities are unfairly targeting investor, requiring repairs that are not required of the general public.
Bruce, the rental registration fee in Garland pays for inspectors that ONLY look at rental properties. They defiantly are scrutinized more.
Brian, I'm a seasoned designer with tremendous construction experience as well. Maybe we should chat and see if our needs/talents align and we can team up to do some work together. Let me know if you're interested. Just getting my feet wet in the investor market myself.
