Problem with flies at lake house

James McQuirter
Posted

Starting up a lake house STR. The amount of crane flies is insane. I think it's spawning season. Had pest control spray. It seems worse now. Also had the county out to re-grade the ditches around the property so they drain better. We are adjacent to a wilderness area and 200 ft from the lake. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you are doing the right thing with the moisture management. Beyond that, there’s not much you can do about outdoor bugs. Spraying the immediate area might knock them back or repel them for a short while but they will eventually move back in.

Hope you have a screened in porch!
