Post: Problem with flies at lake house

Starting up a lake house STR. The amount of crane flies is insane. I think it's spawning season. Had pest control spray. It seems worse now. Also had the county out to re-grade the ditches around the property so they drain better. We are adjacent to a wilderness area and 200 ft from the lake. Any suggestions?

We are preparing to go live soon with our first STR and are looking at these options:
- Ice trays in freezer
- Ice maker in freezer
- Ice dispenser in fridge door
- Countertop ice maker
- Bag of ice in freezer
- Other options

I would like to understand the implications on:
- Guest satisfaction
- Ease of maintenance (cleaning, mechanical issues, etc.)
- Sanitary and health concerns (COVID-19, etc.)

Thanks!

How do I view older posts? Looks like there is a limit on the number of pages you can view from the past. I was reading the STR forum from the beginning. Now I can only go back 19 pages (2 months). I'm missing most of the content in the forum.

I am having trouble finding older posts.  For example, in the STR forum I can’t see threads beyond page 19, 2 months ago.  Could “Sort by Newest” be a sort by age toggle?

@Paul Sandhu I’ve read quite a few.  Great advice.  Quite an interesting setup you got there!  Gonna go a different direction with the decor and amenities, if you know what I mean :)

Thank you all for your advice.  This forum has been a valuable resource for me.  I have been reading the older posts starting from the beginning and found many gems.  I appreciate your sharing and leadership!  I’ll try to do the same as I gain experience as an investor.

My wife and I are renovating our first STR, a 3/2 lake house. We believe it can sleep 8 people. What size and brand water heater would you recommend? It currently has 50 gallon capacity electric heater that needs replacement. No natural gas lines in the area, so we would need to stay with electric or bring in a propane tank. Any advice on tankless heaters would also be appreciated. Thanks.

My wife and I recently purchased our first investment property from TurnkeyInvest in the Greater Memphis Area.  As part of our due diligence, we traveled from Texas to learn about them and the local market.  They met with us in person, talked us through their process, and gave us a neighborhood by neighborhood breakdown of the market.  We later drove by some of the properties they had recently renovated and were impressed with the quality of their work.  Ultimately, we decide to purchase one of their properties and have them manage it for us.  The process was well orchestrated by their team and their partners.  We ended up with a great cash flowing property with a tenant in place.  Real estate investing is new to us and we really appreciate how they have made the process easy.
