Getting started and Self Managing out of state short term rental

My husband and I are looking to buy a property in Meridian, Idaho and make it a short term rental so we can also stay there when we visit family. We currently live in California, but from what I am reading self managing a STR is much, much more profitable and I think it is the only way we be able to have positive cashflow. Who do I need on our "team" to help us get it up and running and be our "boots" on the ground? I am also concerned about furnishing the property and getting it set up just right to maximize occupancy, average daily rates, etc. I am looking for any feedback or experience from anyone who has purchased an out of state property and then self managed (from afar) as a sort term rental. If anyone has experience in the Meridian area I would love to connect. We are looking to find something in the next month to purchase. Thanks!

We bought a property in Orlando and took a few months to get it up and running but now we manage it from afar and it is going really well. You do need to find a team (cleaner/handyman/errand runner) and I have found success in reaching out to other Airbnb properties in the area that have great reviews. Feel free to message me. I’d be happy to answer any questions about our own process. We bought our first one in 2019.
