Melanie Claborn, a former kindergarten teacher and editor of children’s curriculum, began her real estate investing five years ago. In 2017 she left her job to become a full-time real estate investor. Last year she completed 19 transactions (12 wholesale, 4 renovations, 2 lease options and one rental to hold)! Melanie has developed relationships with six private investors who are also benefiting from her success. She has appreciated the assistance from several experienced mentors and loves to help others. Leslie Johnson, after attending school at the University of Pennsylvania, the Wharton School of Business, and the London School of Economics, she spent four years in London as a strategy consultant for oil and gas companies. In 2010 she moved back to St. Louis, and while working at a real estate private equity fund, began renovating houses. She founded Newcastle Real Estate and has been renovating houses in North and West Counties. She is also diligently working on building her rental property portfolio.
Jan Duke, owner of Dukes Homes, LLC, and has been a real estate investor for over three decades. She knows hard-money lending, seller carry-back notes, lease-options, renovations and more. Currently, Jan and her team purchase and repurpose luxury homes in West County. She is also beginning to transition to purchasing and holding more properties for passive income. Her skills have earned her great respect in the real estate industry and she is often asked to speak to investment groups. Jan's expertise also includes investing her family's personal IRA funds in her projects and is passionate about helping women and youth begin their investing. Her daughter is a college sophomore and began her investing at age 13 when she started funding her Roth IRA.
