How to choose an insurance broker?

Hi everyone,

I am looking to obtain home insurance on a primary and rental as well as auto insurance and an umbrella policy. At this point, it makes sense for me to shop around and pick a broker. How do I decide on which brokerage to use and what makes one stand apart from the other? I live in Northern Virginia if anyone has recommendations. Thank you so much!
