Driveway Parasite Removal

Hi,

Haven’t posted here in a minute; thought I would check here first before doing any actual research.  I’m currently managing an eight unit property for my parents who are out of the country ATM.

The property is in a busy shopping area in the SF Bay Area with scarce parking, so obviously unauthorized people try to park in the driveway from time to time.  There is one guy in particular who’s there quite often.  Apparently he’s a former employee of one of the retail units who’s former boss gave the OK to park in the driveway.  He seems to come and go as he pleases, going to restaurants and shopping while leaving  his car to clog up our driveway.

My dad turned a blind eye to this since he doesn’t live on the property and nobody has really complained to him yet.  There’s nothing about this arrangement in the Lease that I know of.  I’d like to get this dude outta there ASAP.

I’ve already contacted towing companies about getting some general tow-away signage.  In the meantime, what can I legally do to kick this parasite out of my driveway?  I’m not the “real” owner (yet) but my dad would sign off on whatever is reasonable if needed when he gets back.

Would, say, a warning note saying I’ll call the police next time I see him there be a legit course of action?

Thanks,

D

Be careful about using a generic sign. Each city will have their own requirements about towing. I had someone towed last week and before they would send out a tow truck, they had me confirm there was a sign that had been there 72 hours and what the sign said. It had to have notice that unauthorized vehicles were not allowed and would be towed. It needed the city code under which grated authority to tow. It needed the name and phone number of the towing company. There are also rules on placement of the sign.

Before you tow, Id just leave a note on the car telling them next time they park there, it's going to be towed. That's probably good enough to get him to stop parking there.
