Squatter Tenant Finally Vacates Property - Question
I have a tenant in Chicago, who's lease expired months ago but she wouldn't move out and didn't pay rent, so I started the eviction process. I just learned that she did move out a couple of weeks ago but is not answering my calls or texts. Long story short, I just spoke to her new landlord who confirmed she moved in.
I was told by an attorney before, that I couldn't kick her out or change the locks or enter the premises. That's why I started the legal process. But now that she's gone, do I still have those same restrictions? I hate to hire an attorney again and pay more for legal fees. Any input or feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Expired lease, you have a confirmation from another landlord that she moved in. If you want to be cautious you can post notice you are going to enter a day or two in advance (check local requirements) and then enter. I would make a video showing you enter and walk around showing anything that is left. As you know where she lives you can word if she wants anything to come pick it up by X date.
If there is nothing left I would document everything you did and file it away and move on.
