My Tenant is without Air

Carmel Duffy
Posted

I have a tenant in Illinois and the air conditioner (which I provided) is not working. I have another one ordered and will get it next week. She has had no air for two weeks. Can she do anything legally to me? Thanks in advance for any advice!

@Carmel Duffy Good idea to look at your state’s statutes regarding cooling and heating. I am located in Florida’s where it gets very hot, and is already in the 90’s this week. We keep on hand portable air conditioning units in these types of situations, but also try and accommodate tenants in extreme cases to pay for a hotel. In addition, does the tenant have renters insurance, they “might” help in this situation too
