Fixing Driveway

Looking to pave/gravel a large back lot and small driveway. Currently dirt and uneven so large pools of water form after rain. Was thinking of using r.a.p, Someone told me that asphalt grindings are better but they are more than double in cost. Anyone used r.a.p.? Does it hold up okay without ruts, okay to plow, etc?? How thick should I lay it?
