Terminating Month to Month Rental Agreement

Was wondering what would happen if I gave notice to terminate a month to month rental agreement to a tenant and then they did not move at the time the tenancy ended? Would I have to go through eviction process? Or would it be more smooth since they already received notice and tenancy is over? I have the right to terminate the tenancy at any time w 30 days notice.
