I am looking to start a real estate portfolio in the states with no knowledge on RE in any states and so im looking to spend 3 years practicing to find good deals and researching neighbourhoods so that when i start to invest i can start working my way up to creating my portfolio that im aiming to have close to 200 units or more.

Gosh. There are lots! The ones that quickly come to mind are Texas, Florida Ohio, and several Midwest states (IN, MO, etc.). Of course, there are BP members on here with large rental portfolios investing in states I haven't mentioned who are experiencing massive success.

Also, your question also depends on your investing goals and local and state rental and tax laws should factor into the answer as well.

Knowledge  is power. Make certain you know your target market inside and out; and I would advise visiting and speaking with people as well (local property managers, local chamber of commerce, etc.)
