Ok so we closed yesterday on a duplex building considered a condo and there in an association. Obviously we made sure with them prior to purchasing that we have full intentions of renting it out. The rules say that’s fine they said yes so be bought the property. Today In the middle of the electric company doing a check up for tree branches covering the lines and a contractor there to get me estimates for remodel the neighbor comes up to me shake hands exchange names and he says so your moving in. I explain that we did purchase the property with full intentions to rent and he flips out saying he never approved it blah blah blah so he leaves.

He comes back a few minutes later saying make sure before you purchase I said we already did which made no sense since he knew we did and started going on again. So I got upset got a look on my face and straight asked him what you have intentions of trying to block my rental plans? Not in those nice words though. He kind of got scared and walked away.

Obviously he’s not on the board of the association and really has no say so and he should of read his bylaws but not a good start to a relationship owning a property next to each other. So now I’m in a dilemma I know hw can’t do **** and the home inspection showed mold in the attic which is commonly shared by both untie no divider and he had some roof issues on his side. Do I take the higher road since I already ordered and have the RMR 141 and 86 what ever to clean the mold and offer to take care of his side as well or do I pull the dick move and start reporting him to the association about the mold that it’s unsafe and he needs to fix that ASAP and report to village pretty sure I can do that as well but obviously after my remodel. I can’t just punch him in the face I’m a father now but I know old me would like to give it to him.

Property was on the market for over 100 days I’m remodeling raising his value he could of came up and if he did not like me renting he could of said he’s disappointed and please get him good people as neighbors or what ever he wanted but he choose to burn a bridge instead of talking it out. It’s our first income property and I don’t wanna jeopardize my family’s investment what you guys think?

@Robert S.

First off, you need get out of the adversarial mindset when dealing with people. You'll find most people  work with you without stirring up a mess that will cost you more $$$ in the long run. Becoming a Landlord is easier by  building relationships with Tenants, Neighbors, Contractors Etc.

Protect your Investment by remediating the Mold asap.
Learn not to share information about your plans with people who don't need to know.
Build Bridges with your neighbor as a good relationship can mean have an extra set of eyes on your property.

Your first reaction is probably WTF is this guy talking about.

It's about helping you avoid become a successful Multi Property Landlord, unless you are one of those people who thrive on prplems, then ignore my post.
