Write a lease extension

Deepti Mikki
Posted

Hi, Need guidance on how you write a lease extension for a single home rental property in Texas. We live in Atlanta. Can someone guide easy way to do it without using help from realtor. Appreciate if you can attach a lease extension form.

Thanks,

Deepti.

Don't make it more complicated than it needs to be. Type up a one-page addendum or even hand-write a note on the existing lease:

"This lease is hereby extended for an additional 12-month period with a new termination date of May 1, 2021. All other terms remain the same."

Or, if you have changes to make, list them out:

The following changes apply:

1. Rent rate is increased to $2,050 per month, effective May 1, 2020"

2. Tenant is permitted to add a dog later this year, subject to approval.

As long as it's written clearly and all parties sign, you can change the lease easily.
