Horrible remodel experience

Scott Rodriguez
Posted

So we made the mistake of hiring a contractor without doing the research or coming on here now we’re  in a bind. We’ve spent a lot of money on this guy who we don’t believe is licensed and he hasn’t got much done in the time. We think he’s a felon he’s got a long arrest report. What should we do so far deep? Thanks. I’ll gladly provide some more info.

Stack his tools in your backyard,  and call him to come and pick them up. Hang up when he starts cursing.

I don't have a creative out for you. Nobody does. This happens very frequently in home improvement, especially in a good economy. The contractor is either incompetent at scheduling, incompetent in his trade, milking the situation, or most likely a combination of all three.

Everyone who tries to convince you that working with small contracting outfits on a single-property level is easy is lying to you out of either ignorance or in the hopes of selling you something. You found your way into this situation. If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone openly admit they knowing hired an unlicensed contractor to save a buck, I'd be a very poor man. But we both know this didn't just happen by accident. You zigged when you should have zagged. Now it's going to cost you, whatever you do.

This is the point when most people who get into any sort of renovation give up and warn people against any sort of real estate investing for the rest of their lives.

Can you find a new contractor to pick up the pieces? Well, it's December and we know nothing about your project, where you are, what was done and what's left to do. You seem eager to share this in private with someone who's going to help you, personally, out of the goodness of their heart. You don't want to expose yourself to possible ridicule or contempt here in the forums. Essentially, you want to be personally coached through this process by an experienced real estate investor for free. Once again, you are zigging instead of zagging.

Look, you screwed up. We all do. What do you have left to lose? Your ego? And why do you care what we think if it isn't helpful to you?

Lay it out here in the forums. If someone comes along and says something silly to poke fun at you and your family's pain, well, the hell with them. Let's see what you're working with, Scott.
