Credit Checks

OK one more question for the landlords today and I should be good to go. I know I need to do credit and background checks but I haven't seen on any of the sites that provide them how they actually work. I would assume a good rental application would provide all the info I need but how do I actually go about doing the check and how does it work? Sorry for the dumb questions but I just can't find the answers like I said on any sites that actually provide you with this service. I've had people tell me to join Arpola. Advice is appreciated.
