How to fire an employee?

Hey everyone,

So our first month with our 10 plex we also kept the same property manager. We tried it for one month and it was a very hectic month. We can see she is not the right fit for us and we will be letting her go tomorrow.

We are not there so I will have to do this over the phone. I’m looking for any tips or advice on how to handle this situation. Anything I should include or be sure to do after?

Thanks everyone

@Beth Matherne

You're going to call your current PM and let her go.  Hopefully there's nothing for her to steal or break on her way out.  Will she leave the keys where you can find them?

An HR manager told me a long time that terminations should never be a surprise and there should always be adequate notice and communication.  Communication should never begin on the day the person is being let go.  Ultimately, the termination should be mutual because both parties know what the previously agreed upon goals and time frame wasn't met.

Hopefully, you and the PM are on the same page since you won't be there for the transition.  I agree with @Nathan Gesner  Get a professional, especially because you're absentee.
